South Bay Circles Presents Lughnasadh with Annie and Friends
August 18 2019
Doors open at 4PM
Ritual at 5PM
Potluck afterward in the dining hall
The Wheel of the Year has turned once more, and the harvest will soon be upon us. We have food on our tables, and the soil is fertile. Nature’s bounty, the gift of the earth, gives us reasons to be thankful. Come and share with us the blessings of abundance and plenty.
Lughnasadh marks the beginning of the noticeable descent of the Sun into the darkness of winter. From the connection between the Earth (female principle) and the Sun (male principle), the marriage of the Sky Father (Sun God) with the Earth Mother we celebrated at Beltane, emerge the fruits of the first harvest of the year. Lughnasadh is a time of joy about the first fruits. It is also a time of tension, because the dark days of winter are coming nearer, and most of the harvest is not brought in and stored away yet.
Guidelines for Potluck:
Please bring food that is ready to serve. There will not be anyone there to cut up a whole chicken or slice a loaf of bread. Assume you will not have access to a refrigerator or stove on site.
Please mark your platter/bowls/serving utensils and remember to take them with you when you leave. If there is leftover food, please take it with you.
If possible, please label your food so those with food restrictions will know what’s in it.
Bring something you like and will want, that way you are guaranteed to like something.
Most of our potlucks are meals (unless the invite says otherwise) so main dishes, salads, side dishes, desserts, non-alcoholic beverages to share are all welcome.
Be polite, friendly, and considerate of others.
Use common sense.
Ask the owner before touching items (drums, altar item, jewelry etc.)
Stop chatting and turn off your phone when the ritual is about to start.
Rituals are participatory, so please join in when asked.
A cast circle is a sacred space so don’t be disruptive.
Assist in the post-event clean-up – please take care of your own trash.
Be discreet if you run into people elsewhere, not all Pagans are public about it.
The requested donations are used to pay for our insurance and site rental fees. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but these contributions are essential to our continued existence.
South Bay Circles (SBC) is an association of several local groups, covens, and solitaries who come together for the specific purpose of presenting shared ritual celebrations of the Eight Sabbats of the year in the San Francisco South Bay Area.
